Patricia Pavlovska: Permaculture in Slovakia: movement, practice and design tool for transformative change in the slovak society.

Patricia will present the permaculture movement in Slovakia, focusing on the milestones of permaculture in the country, the main results that has been achieved, and how these achievements are imtegrated in the wider national context how everyday people in Slovakia are influenced by permaculture. She will also talk about how did they manage to work with the wider ecosystem around permaculture movement, with universities, local governments, public and private bodies, and who are key stakeholders and possible future collaborators for promoting permaculture in Slovakia. She will also talk about the organisational background of permaculture education and the lessons learnt during the last decades.

As a daughter of permaculture pioneer in former Czechoslovakia, Patricia was in contact with permaculture from her early childhood. She studied Garden and Landscape Architecture at Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra. She dedicates most of her professional time to designing gardens, public spaces and landscapes, as well as to lecturing about permaculture, organic gardening and eco architecture and publishing articles on the topic. She has helped to build a number of school and community gardens (at Bratislava Water Company, Devínska Nová Ves, Jakubovo sq. in Bratislava, Zvolen, …) and eco-centres (Polomy Zaježová and Sosna). She lives in a countryside settlement near the village of Hrušov, in south-central Slovakia.
