Across Central and Eastern Europe, urban permaculture and urban farming initiatives are creating new opportunities for sustainable food production, community building, and ecological regeneration. Community gardens, edible public spaces, and local food networks are helping cities become more resilient, inclusive, and environmentally conscious.
This discussion will also explore how cultivation, cooking, and distribution can be connected through community-supported agriculture (CSA) schemes, cooperative food networks, innovative cafés, and grassroots collectives. These models strengthen local economies, shorten supply chains, and create new spaces for social innovation and collaboration.
Tracey Wheatley is one of the driving forces behind transforming communities in Hungary, she has been working for 10 years on what “locals” can do for themselves. She is a trainer, coordinator, and was staff member of Védegylet. She is one of the founders of the KÖZÖS café and kitchen, an organizer of transforming communities, and a permaculture gardener. She is the member of the Hungarian Permaculture Association.
